NEHC Phenomenon Event
I attended the New England Heli Crew Phenomenon event for the first time. It was their second year, and all in all I had a blast. Plenty of flying stations, scale, 3D, food, vendors, and only a short 30 minute drive for me. I met a bunch of good people, learned quite a bit, and walked away with a few goodies.
I spent the weekend there and camped out. Since we did sell our motorhome a few years ago because we weren’t using it enough at that time, I purchased a used 20′ travel trailer to use for flying. It has the necessary amenities I need at a flying field. A refrigerator to keep the steaks and beer cold, a shower with hot water to clean up after a long day in the hot sun, an air conditioner to keep cool, comfortable bed, DVD player and flat screen, and plenty of room for airplanes or helicopters. It was a good shake down trip for next season. The nice part of camping on site is that there are no distractions, just lots of flying time.
At the event, I flew the semi-scale MD500E and the T-Rex 600 Nitro. I felt a little cramped in the area I chose to fly because the main flight line was always busy. I like to use a lot of sky when I fly, and the flight stations were setup for tighter 3D routines. I just needed to watch the trees on the right, and the other flight station on the left. Even so, I had a great time. I’ll definitely be back next year.
Here is a short video of clips taken at the event.
